MOKINS'S FRENCH PERFUMETTES, VICTOIRE LILAC, LAY-DOWN MINI ATOMIZER, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.Late teens
From Joan's collection. This lovely old lay-down (stand not included) mini atomizer was made by Mokins's French Perfumettes for the fragrance "Victoire Lilac." The bottle is made of fine latticino-style blown glass. There are 2 very fine glass siphon rods (barely thicker than a needle!) -- one inside the bulb mesh, and one starting at the top opening going down into the center of the bottle to the very bottom. There are 3 embossed paper labels: (1) gold neck label has the maker's initials; (2) gold label on one side of the bottle reads "Mokins's, Paris" -- under the word "Paris" are the letters "B S.G.D.G." *; (3) gold and green printed label reads, "French Perfumettes, Victoire Lilac." When I view this bottle, I can't help but see a bird in flight -- beautiful!

* "B" -- is an abbreviation for the French word "breveté" ("patented").
S.G.D.G. -- abbreviation for "Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement" ("Without Government Guarantee").

Size: 2 3/4" h. (bottle only) x 7/8" w. (approx, at widest point). Condition: Excellent -- no chips or cracks, both glass siphon rods intact. Atomizer bulb missing, very common on old atomizer bottles, does not affect value. This bottle is very difficult to find in this condition. See additional photos.

From Joan's collection. Lentheric made this lovely deco bottle for the fragrance "Miracle." The bottle is empty. The fragrance was launched in 1936, but this bottle design dates from the early 1940s. If you like labels – this bottle has them – four – to be exact! There are 2 gold foil labels, one on each side of the bottle – one has the maker name – the other, the name of the fragrance. The fourth label is on the bottom of the bottle and states: "Completed in Lentherics Laboratories. U.S.A., 4 oz." A wonderful classic collector bottle.

HERMAN TAPPAN, SIGNAL FLASH, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1890
From Joan's collection. Herman Tappan of New York made this bottle representing a railroad lantern. The bottle is empty. The glass is a beautiful deep teal. The cap, collar and base are silver-colored metal. The cagework on the lantern is also metal. If you like labels – this bottle has them – there are 3!! There are 2 red-printed labels on the sides of the bottle – one has the fragrance name printed on the outer edge with a red circle in the center that has the patent date.* The other label reads: "Tappan Perfumer, N.Y." The black-printed label on the bottom, under the metal base, advertises another Tappan perfume, "Sweet Bye & Bye."

* Since the J, U and L of the date are scraped off, I searched the archives of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to confirm the patent date. H.Tappan received Pat. #432,451 for a "Perfume Holder" on July 15, 1890. A drawing of this bottle, with a slightly different cap, was submitted for the patent.

Size: 3 1/2" high (to top of cap) x 1 3/4" wide (at base). Condition: Bottle – no chips or cracks. Overall – excellent condition for a 129-year-old bottle! Very hard to find this teal- colored bottle with all 3 labels intact and readable. See additional photos.

The bottle is unopened, sealed with a gold foil band which wraps across the top, down the sides and is joined on the bottom. No evaporation of perfume. The stopper is gold plated (metal?). The bottle is clear glass with "Amun" gilded on the front. The glossy paper box is black with gold printing. Top of cover is stamped “4711/EGYPTIAN COLLECTION.” Printed on one end of the box is a description of the depicted scene: “Detail of an illustration on a trumpet: Pharaoh Tutankhamen (approx. 12th cent. B.C.) (in the middle) receives the gift of life from the deities: Re-Harakhti (left), the sun god, and Ptah, the creator of the universe.” Description is printed also in German and French. The box bottom is plastic with a molded plastic fiber-coated interior.
Size: 2 1/2” high x 1 3/8” wide. Box: 3 1/2” high x 2 5/8” wide. Condition: Bottle – MINT. Box: excellent -- bottle well split on 2 corners and 2 interior sides -- common damage for this box. This is 1 of 3 "Amun" presentations I've owned which developed the same damage (1/4 oz. and 1/2 oz. bottles with different boxes; bottles laid flat in boxes). This is a heavy bottle for its size. The plastic dried out and split from the weight of the bottle. See additional photos.

In my opinion, Lucien Lelong made some of the most feminine and lovely perfume bottles. In ths lising is the bottle for Lucien Lelong's vintage fragrance, Indiscrete. GRENOVILLE, DANS UN JARDIN (ENVOI), PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1947
After World War II, the perfume industry created perfume presentations on the theme of victorious celebration. The Allied victory inspired three versions of a Grenoville perfume bottle titled "Envoi di France" ("Envoi from France"). The American version used the American Eagle and American Indian motifs. The British version used three British royal plumes and British lion, and the French bottle used the Gallic Rooster and bouquets of flowers. This bottle is the French version. The mold blown glass bottle has a frosted Rooster stopper with a gold foil fragrance-name banner - "Dans Un Jardin" ("In a Garden"). The bottle comes in a colorful box. A brass collar holds it in place inside the box. The box has the French motifs printed on it. This is a wonderful commemoration of the Allied victory in WWII. Vive la France! VINTAGE, ELIZABETH ARDEN, ON DIT, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1944
This interesting bottle was created in 1937 by Lucienne Coudert. However, it was not launched until after WWII, for Christmas 1944. The motil of the gossiping ladies is molded the same on front and back of the bottle. There is an inner stopper, and the bottle design is completed with the curls of the women's hair forming the overcap. The gold foil hand tag is printed with a black semi-open fan and the name of the fragrance, On Dit. Bottom of the bottle embossed, "Bottle Made in France." Please read the NOTE below regarding the contents of the bottle.

NOTE: The liquid in the bottle is NOT the original perfume. The bottle was filled with cologne before photographing it to enhance the design. The cologne has been removed and the bottle is now empty, making it safe for shipping.

VERY RARE, VINTAGE, DACHE, DRIFTING, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1941
Fabulous 1941 figural creation for Lilly Dache's mysterious fragrance, Drifting. This surreal bottle, originally came in a very rare set of three busts. The small glass bottles are encased in a composition form resembling a woman's bust enclosed within the leaves of a plant. The headless bust has a tiny green plastic screw in stopper. The fragrance name, Drifting, was symbolized by a feathered stopper on the full-sized version of this enigmatic bottle. Finding an individual bottle from this set is very rare! The bottom of the bottle is not perfectly flat so I stabilized it by attaching it to a colorful lid of a ring box with some dental wax (removeable and non-damaging), included with the bottle for display. In 1996, the complete set sold for $8,250. In my years of collecting, I have never seen another set of three Drifting bottles for sale, nor have I seen an individual bottle for sale.
Size: Bottle: 3 3/8" high. Condition: Bottle in excellent condition - no chips or cracks. Please see additional photos.

GRENOVILLE, BYZANCE, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1940s
After World War II, the perfume industry created perfume presentations on the theme of victorious celebration. The Allied victory inspired three versions of a Grenoville perfume bottle titled "Envoi di France" ("Envoi from France"). The American version used the American Eagle and American Indian motifs. The British version used three British royal plumes and British lion, and the French bottle used the Gallic Rooster and bouquets of flowers. This bottle is the American version. The mold-blown glass bottle has a red, white and blue blown glass, individually-made stopper with a gold foil fragrance-name banner, "Byzance". The bottle comes in a colorful box with a brass collar to hold it in place inside the box. The box has the American motifs printed on it. This is a wonderful commemoration of the Allied victory in WWII. "God Bless America!" Also see the French version for sale in this section - P1768. LUBIN, OCEAN BLEU, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1925
Parfums Lubin is one of the oldest perfume houses in the world. Pierre François Lubin founded the company in 1798, and its early history is linked to the high society of the Napoleonic era. This is a vintage (not quite 1798 vintage!) perfume bottle by Lubin for "Ocean Bleu" fragrance from 1925. The clear glass bottle has an embossed pattern of scrolls, or perhaps, waves, on the front and back. A blue and silver foil label is on the front of the flask-shape flacon. The small square base is embossed, "Lubin, Paris." Brass stopper. Interesting bottle from an ancient and historically interesting maker, Lubin.

LUCIEN LELONG, ORGUEIL, METAL CLAD PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1946
This limited edition bottle was made by Lucien Lelong for "Orgueil." The bottle and stopper are completely covered in gold-colored metal! The bottle is empty. Number 244 is faintly etched and very faintly painted on the base of the stopper neck. The same number is on the INSIDE bottom of the bottle. The bottle opening is 3/4" wide, and the number can be seen by reflecting the inside of the bottle in sunlight or under good incandescent light. The large number is hand-written on paper which must have been glued to the glass before the metal was applied. There is also a round paper label on the bottom of the outside of the bottle: "PARFUMS LUCIEN LELONG, MADE IN FRANCE, NET. CONT. 4 FL. OZ., PARIS."
Size: 4 5/8" h. x 2 3/4" w. (at widest point). Condition: The bottle is in good condition -- minor, normal age scratches. The bottle rim has a very tiny nick and 2 tiny discolored areas. Stopper edge has nicks and dings. The underside of stopper has tiny flakes in the glass along the metal edge which were probably done in the manufacturing process when the metal was applied over the glass. The glass is completely level with the metal, so it would be difficult to chip the glass in that area. No chips to the stopper neck. Size: 4 1/4" h. x 2 7/8" w. (at widest point). Condition: Stopper, mint, no chips or cracks. Bottle, very good, no chips or cracks but some cloudiness from the mid section up to the neck, scratch on the back side hardly noticeable. Label, good, no tears or missing pieces, shows wear but is still readable.

LALIQUE, L'AIR DU TEMPS PEACH PINK DOVES PERFUME BOTTLE
This lovely Lalique bottle holds 1/2 oz. of Nina Ricci's classic "L'Air du Temps." The stopper color is peach or pink -- the photos are not true color. The bottle has never been opened. The base of the bottle is hand-etched "Lalique, France." The hexagonal birdcage box has 2 doors and closes with a yellow satin ribbon. The fragrance and maker names are printed in gold on the doors. The box is topped with a plastic finial and sits on 6 plastic feet of various colors. The original protective foam rubber packing remains in the box. This bottle comes with its outer shipping box, printed in gold, and with its styrofoam packing.

NOTE: This 1/2 oz. bottle is the only size produced in the series of 8 colored doves. The first 3 colors were introduced to the market in 1991. Five more colors followed in 1992 and 1993.

Size: 3 1/2" h. (at the highest point of the wings). Condition: Bottle and birdcage box, mint (some evaporation of fragrance, no leakage into box). Outer shipping box, good -- no tears, light spot on ride side near top, crease on left side of top flap edge, light compression on top and bottom edges, bar code sticker partially torn off (no damage to box paper). (Remember -- this is a shipping box which, most likely, will be stored away.) See additional photos.

COTY, L'AIMANT, PERFUME BOTTLE WITH BOX, c.1928
This beautiful perfime bottle was made by Coty for the fragrance "L'Aimant." The bottle has never been opened. This fragrance is old and should not be worn. The octagonal bottle has a large glass stopper (or overcap?) with a design of leaves and sepia patina. There is an embossed gold label on the front. A tiny decal label near the base has the fluid content (0.80 fl.oz.). The bottom of the bottle is marked in raised lettering "COTY, BOTTLE MADE IN ENGLAND". There is also an etched number that is difficult to read -- looks like 1 + 1 (probably 141). The box is covered with a pearlized white paper. The bottle rests on a white moiré fabric interior. Gold foil paper trims the edges of the box base.
Size: 3 1/4" h. x 1 1/4" w. Condition: Bottle, labels and stopper, including patina -- MINT. Box -- cover shows age wear and some stains, bottom right corner partially split, hinged back is perfect. Interior of box cover has small stain, marks on fabric where bottle neck rests, fabric under bottle is darker and uniform in color -- doesn't appear to be perfume stained. See additional photos.

CARLOVA, PARFUMERIE SOCIETY, 3-PIECE SET w/BOX, c.1920s-30s
This lovely 3-piece perfume presentation was made by Carlova, for their Parfumerie Society line. The perfume remaining in the large bottle is old and should not be used. The small bottle is empty. The deco-printed cardboard powder box has been opened, but appears to be full. It has been covered with a clear wrap to prevent the powder from falling out. Both bottles are flask-shaped and pentagonal. Each has – a square neck; an inner cork stopper; a brass snap-on overcap; a gold-colored silk (?) tassel; a raised flower petal design on both sides of the bottle – and – a gold-printed and embossed paper label reading – "Parfumerie Society, Paris-New York." The deco-printed presentation box is lined with a vibrant orange fabric. There is no fluid content marked on the bottles or box and no indication as to what they contained. The smaller bottle most likely held perfume and the larger bottle cologne or e.d.t. There is no color shade printed on the powder box. There are no markings on the bottoms of the bottles. This is an unusual and complete presentation.
