PARFUMS CHEVALIER GARDE, HRH, E.D.T., PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1929
This impressive perfume bottle was made by Parfums Chevalier Garde, a New York company, for the fragrance "HRH” – e.d.t. The bottle is empty. This globe-shaped bottle has a massive stopper that is molded as a, frosted, double-headed eagle topped with a crown. The escutcheon on the front (between the two eagles) bears the initials of the maker -- PCG. The legs and tail feathers of the eagle are molded on the bottle and are also frosted. The bottom is concave and has no markings. This bottle is much harder to find than the version with a flared frosted base.
Size: 5" high x 2 3/4" wide (at widest point). Condition: Bottle – very good, no cracks or fractures, tiny pin-head flake on back edge of bottle opening; small areas on surface opening were not acid etched in production process -- they appear shiny but are not chips. Stopper - surface sliver chip inside top edge of right wing near eagle’s head and pin-head flake on tip of same wing (both difficult to see when stopper in place). Great bottle, in spite of these flaws. See additional photos.

VANTINE'S, JAVA LILY, PERFUME BOTTLE WITH RARE FOO DOG STAND, c.1920s-1930s
From Joan's collection. Vantine's was a New York importer of Oriental goods from the early 1900s to the 1940s. The fragrance “Java Lily” dates from 1900. However, I believe this presentation may date from the 1920s-1930s. The bottle is unopened and retains about 3/4 of the original green-tinted fragrance. (This perfume is at least 90 years old and should not be used.) The rectangular bottle has an elongated octagonal stopper tied to the bottle with a gold-colored silk cord. If you like labels – this bottle has 3 – around the neck, front and back! They’re all embossed gold-printed paper. The Foo Dog presentation stand is made of plaster of Paris with a lacquered finish simulating the look of carved ivory. The bottle sets in a recessed area behind the dog. The interior of the recess is impressed with the name "Vantine’s." The bottom of the stand had a die-cut, red and gold-printed label with the name "Vantine’s." A shadow of a "V" can be seen at about the center (ink bleed-through from the label). The paper fragment ("e's") is near the right edge. This is a rare presentation -- the only complete presentation, and the only plaster of Paris presentation stand I've seen in my 26 years of collecting!
Size: 2 3/4" high x 1 7/8" wide. Stand: 3" wide (widest point) x 2 7/8" high (highest point) x 2 7/8" deep. Overall height: 4". Condition: Bottle and stopper – excellent, no chips or cracks. Bottle labels – excellent, no tears, stains or missing pieces; partial label on stand bottom. Stand – excellent, no chips, cracks or missing pieces, normal age wear on bottom, dark vertical line is production flaw (indentation) – not a crack. NOTE: Due to fragile nature of lacquer, excessive handling should be avoided. See additional photos.

RAFFY, LEDA, BLUE CASED GLASS, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1927
From Joan's collection. This lovely blue cased glass perfume bottle was made by Raffy, an American company, for the fragrance "Leda." The bottle is empty. Does the bottle look familiar?!! Yes – the design is exactly like the Lucretia Vanderbilt bottle – including the stopper/dauber with molded deco design and accented with silver gilt. The design and gilding are the same on both sides of stopper. The large, round, silver foil label is blue-printed and embossed with flowers and the maker's name, "RAFFY New York." The bottom is marked "FRANCE" – and another mark which is not readable.

Historical Note: Marcel Raffy was an American who fraudulently claimed to have a Paris office for his perfume business. He was: "Sued by the French perfumers' association for having used a factitious Paris address." *

*Ref., The Art of Perfume, Christie Mayer Lefkowith, Thames and Hudson, New York, 1994, pg. 202.

Size: 4 3/8" high x 3" wide (at widest point). Condition: Bottle and stopper/dauber – Mint. Label – excellent, teeny, tiny scrapes on some flowers and leaves, couple of tiny nibbles to foil on bottom edge. No fragrance name label. See additional photos.

MOIRET, CIRCE, BLACK PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1924
This black glass perfume bottle was made by Moiret, a French company, for the fragrance "Circe." There is perfume in the bottle (don’t know how much). This perfume is old and should not be used. There is a very small, and very fragile, piece of cording around the bottle and stopper necks. The stopper has a matte finish with a polished edge and stylized matte flower on the top. The bottle is oval with sloping shoulders. In matte relief on the front – a nude woman on one knee, holding a stemmed glass, dog/wolf(?) on left and sleeping lion on right. The decorative edge around the base has a matte finish. The back has a large, recessed, matte circle with the fragrance name "Circe" in polished relief letters. The bottom of the bottle has a polished edge and is faintly molded in the center "Made in France."

RARE – ELIZABETH ARDEN, LA JOIE, BLOWN GLASS PERFUME BOTTLE WITH BOX, c.1940s
From Joan's collection. This seldom-seen blown glass perfume bottle was made by Elizabeth Arden for the fragrance "La Joie." The fragrance was trademarked in 1928. However, this presentation may date from a later time (c.1940s). The bottle is unopened with cork and filament seal. There appears to be a very small amount of dark perfume in the bottom of the bottle. This perfume is old and should not be used.

The pearlescent glass bottle has deeply concaved sides. The 4-petal blown glass stopper is in the shape of a partially-open cyclamen flower and is attached to the bottle neck. The bottom of the bottle has a large gold foil label with black printing: "La Joie, Distributor, Contents 1/4 fl. oz."

Very elaborate box. A silver foil label, printed in black, is attached to the bottom side of the box cover: "La Joie – Elizabeth Arden, New York, Distributor, Contents 1/4 fl. oz." The outer sides are covered with white paper and wrapped with clear cellophane. The interior sides are lined with fuchsia satin. The edges of the box bottom are trimmed with gold paper. The bottle rests in a fuchsia satin well. The bottom is covered with black paper -- printed on one corner: "Box Made in France."

EXTREMELY RARE, VINTAGE, DACHE, DASHING, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1941
Fabulous 1941 figural creation for Lilly Dache's fragrance, Dashing. A clear glass bottle is encased in white composition material molded in the shape of a dog. This appealing figural bottle represents Lilly Dache's pet poodle, Fifi, sitting on his hind legs. It has a red plastic screw-in stopper. Originally, the bottle came in a set of three. Finding an individual example is very rare. The bottom of the bottle is not perfectly flat, so I stabilized it by attaching it to the colorful lid of a ring box using some dental wax (removeable and non-damaging), and will include with the bottle for display. VINTAGE, ELIZABETH ARDEN, ON DIT, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1944
This interesting bottle was created in 1937 by Lucienne Coudert. However, it was not launched until after WWII, for Christmas 1944. The liquid in the bottle is not perfume and will be discarded before the bottle is shipped. The bottle and stopper, molded in clear and frosted glass, depict two women whispering secrets and gossip to one another. The fragrance is very appropriately named, "On Dit," (They Say). The motil of the gossiping ladies is molded the same on front and back of the bottle. There is an inner stopper, and the bottle design is completed with the curls of the women's hair forming the overcap. The gold foil hang-tag is printed with a black semi-open fan and the name of the fragrance, On Dit. Bottom of the bottle embossed, "Bottle Made in France." Please read the NOTE below regarding the contents of the bottle.

NOTE: The liquid in the bottle is NOT the original perfume. The bottle was filled with cologne before photographing it to enhance the design. The cologne has been removed and the bottle is now empty, making it safe for shipping.

Size: 3 3/4" high. Condition: Excellent condition. See additional photos.

LUBIN, OCEAN BLEU, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1925
Parfums Lubin is one of the oldest perfume houses in the world. Pierre François Lubin founded the company in 1798, and its early history is linked to the high society of the Napoleonic era. His fragrances were worn by Joséphine and Pauline Bonaparte, and eventually, by all the crowned heads of Europe. They were first imported to America in 1830. This is a vintage (not quite 1798 vintage!) perfume bottle by Lubin for "Ocean Bleu" fragrance from 1925. The clear glass bottle has an embossed pattern of scrolls, or perhaps, waves, on the front and back. A blue and silver foil label is on the front of the flask-shape flacon. The small square base is embossed, "Lubin, Paris." Brass stopper. Interesting bottle from an ancient and historically interesting maker, Lubin.
Size: 2 1/2" high. Condition: Bottle and stopper in excellent condition. See additional photos.

HARD-TO-FIND, LA CROIX, C'EST LA VIE!, PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1990
C'est la vie! was the Paris designer Christian La Croix's only fragrance. It debuted in the United States in 1990. The fragrance was presented in a creative bottle designed by Maurice Roger. The beautiful amber colored glass bottle is softly curved, not symetrically round, sort of a free form shape. The neck has two black rings around it. The unique enameled glass stopper represents a small piece of branch coral. The overall effect is striking and so pretty. Black enameled lettering provides the label on the front of the bottle. Bottom is printed, "Made in France". The bottle originally held 1/3 ounce of C'est la vie! eau de toilette; remnant of the fragrance remains. This 30-year-old fragrance in its lovely bottle was discontinued and is now hard-to-find. Original box.
Size: 2 1/2" high. Condition: Excellent condition. Original box and some fragrance. See additional photos.

LUCIEN LELONG, ORGUEIL, METAL CLAD PERFUME BOTTLE, c.1946
This limited edition bottle was made by Lucien Lelong for "Orgueil." The bottle and stopper are completely covered in gold-colored metal! The bottle is empty. Number 244 is faintly etched and very faintly painted on the base of the stopper neck. The same number is on the INSIDE bottom of the bottle. The bottle opening is 3/4" wide, and the number can be seen by reflecting the inside of the bottle in sunlight or under good incandescent light. The large number is hand-written on paper which must have been glued to the glass before the metal was applied. There is also a round paper label on the bottom of the outside of the bottle: "PARFUMS LUCIEN LELONG, MADE IN FRANCE, NET. CONT. 4 FL. OZ., PARIS."
Size: 4 5/8" high x 2 3/4" wide, at widest point. Condition: The bottle is in good condition -- minor, normal age scratches. The bottle rim has a very tiny nick and 2 tiny discolored areas. Stopper edge has nicks and dings. The underside of stopper has tiny flakes in the glass along the metal edge which were probably done in the manufacturing process when the metal was applied over the glass. The glass is completely level with the metal, so it would be difficult to chip the glass in that area. No chips to the stopper neck. NOTE: enlarged pictures are taken with a macro lens and greatly enhance any imperfections. See additional photos.
